The Minister of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment, Hon. Jean-François Chaumière met with the designated administrator of RS Denims, Mr. Mustaq Osman today, Monday 25 January 2010. Mr. Jayen Neerunjun, Director of Labour and Industrial Relations and other officers of MOLIRE also attended the meeting.
The situation at RS Denims was reviewed by the Minister, who also addressed possible measures to be considered to help improve this situation. For reminder, RS Denims is benefiting from assistance from the Mechanism for Transitional Support to the Private Sector.
RS Denims employs 155 people, of whom 78 foreign workers. Minister Chaumière expressed his will to see this company restore itself so as to save jobs. The designated administrator, Mr. Mustaq Osman has 28 days to carry out the company’s rescue plan. More time may be granted to RS Denim, subject to approval by the Supreme Court.
Mr. Mustaq Osman is meeting RS Denim employees today after meeting the company’s creditors last week.
The Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment is following the matter closely.
