In the course of the last cabinet meeting on Friday 15 January 2010, Cabinet decided to donate $ 500 000 or Rs 15 million to the people and government of disaster-struck Haiti.
Government has therefore decided to extend its help through the organisation of a major national event: TELEDON so that companies and individuals can come forward and make donations to help Haiti. Minister Jean-François Chaumière is chairing the committee which includes Minister Asraf Dulull and the Attorney General, Rama Valayden. The event is set to kick off at 10 a.m. next Wednesday and will last until 10 p.m. The Prime Minister, Dr. The Honourable Navinchandra Ramgoolam will be launching the Teledon, and is expected to make his personal contribution to the fund at this occasion.
MBC television and radio as well as all private radios and the press have been enlisted to support this event to help make Mauritians aware of the need to support Haiti and make their concrete contributions to the fund.
